Interview with Sathor of Ars Macabra:

1- Would you be so kind and introduce the readers to the history of Ars Macabra?

All began in 1998 when Sathor (guitar) and Nero Baratro (bass) founded Ars Macabra. In the beginning of 1999 they were joined by Abyss on drums and Azrael on vocals. During winter 1999 they went in the studio to record their first selffinanced demo tape 7 songs very raw of obscure hyper fast music with unconventional freezing riffs. The tape was re-recorded during July 1999 in between the studio session two new songs were written and Added to the tracklist, and it took the name of "Iter in obscuritates mentis" which contains also Latin lyrics. After few live gigs Sathor and Nero Baratro take the decision to remain the only band members and to start looking for a label deal. During the summer of 2001 they sign a contract for two records with the Italian label Elegy Music they record the their first full lenght album "Daemonolatria Hypnotica" 9 traks lasting over 40 minutes of new material. Always on Summer 2001 the track "On the art of suffering" is included in the "Wild zine" compilation. In the summer 2003 the official band web-site is created and after several auditions three new members join the band Carnag_744 on drums , Tehor on guitar and Myst on vocals. During January 2004 the necessity to have a stable and reliable line up force Tehor to quit. During March 2004, due to personal issues, Carnag_744 is left out from the band and replaced by the drum machine. Ars Macabra choose to carry on as a 3 members line-up...waiting for better times and musicians to be part of the band.

2- How did you create you demo, what song it have had?

The demo was recorded in 1999 and has the following songs:
"Iter in obscuritates mentis" (intro)
"Disciples of torment"
"Nadasdy'w widow"
"On the art of suffering"
"Nightbreed"
"I am the equinox of emptiness"
"Nox Mentis"
"The rising of the black templars"
"Remembrances of cruelty"

3- Why do you sing in Latin, is suitable to your music?
We use latin because is a language used in many occult invocations and spells in black magic, ...is suitable for our music when it comes to evil and demonic porpouses....

4- Why do you change the memebers, the other were a lack of time to the band?

not enough dedication and its not easy to find somebody that both loves extreme music be reliable and good musician....

5- Which is the difference between all your releases, how did you get the contract with Elegy?

the demo is more raw and primitive , we had the contract with Elegy because Elegy wants more extreme stuff and bands and has a huge catalog of cult and extreme bands...

6- Why to release a tape and a CD in the same year, why not all in Total War?


because we had a contract with Elegy first and the Total war deal is just for a reprint on cassette

7- What do you know of Peru or Southamerica?

Not much... political instability,Brazil the beaches and the sea... I know there is good cocaine and drugs there I wonder if they are cheap... I think in Brazil there are a lot of black metal fans...maya ruins...

8- Do you like the times of the empire, why do you think that the empire fall?

We are in 2004 I think it makes non sense to think about the roman empire I dont give a shit about it...

9- Do you have fear to the death, why?

ask me again when I am going to die, answering to you now it really doent make any sense...

10- Do you play in live, how are your shows?

yea we did some shows and we are going to do more...we like to use blood at our shows....

11- What do you think about the actual scene, do you think is full of trends?

yes there are many trends the black metal itself it can be considered as a trend nowdays it lost all the original meaning from the beginning I think

12- Are you satanist, what do you think of La Vey of Crowley?

La Vey I think is a joke, Crowley was misanderstood but was a person who personally sperimented "Magik" and with all the consequences , he unveiled many ways to reach the unconsciuos and the unleash of your demons.

13- Any future plan?

eat, fuck, kill
